Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 8

In 2002 (or maybe 2003) we picked up two Maxtor 6E030L0 hard drives. These appear to have less than average reliability. One was RMAed within the warranty period. Both are now showing signs of severe surface degradation. I will avoid this series of drives in the future. Other Maxtor drives we've had are still in service, and don't show nearly these kinds of problems.

The drive that was in ["Msgc"] is deadest, having about 25+ reallocated sectors. The one in ["Eternium"] also has some reallocated sectors, and is scheduled to be replaced with a 80G Hitachi 7K80. At least as soon as it's shipped and delivered.

Lately I've been leaning towards Hitachi drives, for no real good reason, other than that I've not seen any die under my watch, but that's not saying much, I've not had many for that long.
